31 Days of Halloween Day 2 – Hellboy: The Midnight Circus

Only 29 days until Halloween!

Throughout the month of October I’ll be posting once a day with something to get you into the Halloween spirit, including movie and book reviews, real haunted places, occult topics and more. Come back each day and join in the fun!

If you’re like most people, the only thing you know about Hellboy is that some movies were made about him. Hopefully your knowledge of the character goes deeper than that, but if not you should know that you’re completely missing out. Hellboy is one of my favorite comic book characters, because he contains more depth than many. To help get you in the spirit of the Halloween season, I heartily recommend reading Hellboy: The Midnight Circus.

Hellboy 2

The graphic novel was original published back in 2013, but I just recently picked it up. It’s about a young Hellboy who decides one night to run away from B.P.R.D. Headquarters and prove that he’s mature. He’s then lured to a mysterous midnight circus that’s full of all kinds of dangers. The story then consciously mirrors the original Pinocchio in many ways.

Different characters show concern for what role Hellboy will play in the future, as a hero or demon.

Hellboy: The Midnight Circus is entertaining, yet not too heavy. The artwork is rich and captivating, and you’ll find yourself quickly getting whisked away into the fanciful world of paranormal creatures. The only drawback is that the book isn’t very long, but you can easily finish it in a single sitting.

Hellboy 3Do you know of any other great paranormal-themed graphic novels?

Are you a Hellboy fan?

Have you read The Midnight Circus?

Leave a comment below and join in the Halloween fun! We still have 29 more posts to go this month, so come back and see what else I have in store.
